The History of Mexican Hot Chocolate begins when cacao pods were used to make fermented beverages. This fermented drink was made from cacao beans, sugar, cinnamon, and sometimes nuts. It is often served hot and frothy. This beverage likely first had religious significance in Mesoamerica, where cacao is grown.
